Portraiture Class
$125.00
Beginning to Intermediate
Every Wednesday in October (10/2 – 10/30) at 7-9pm
Located at Plumb Arts Studio – 4550 Central Ave. (Northwood Christian Church)
Ages 15+
Week 1: Form and Value
Students will begin with a simple clay exercise to loosely ascertain the depressions and protrusions of the human skull. With charcoal and pencil, we will create a value scale from dark to light with attention to blending and shading techniques. Students will proceed to draw the skull with newly acquired skills emphasizing values while considering form.
Week 2: Proportion and Features
We will move to facial proportions and features from varying angles, finishing with a charcoal rendering of the face and head.
Week 3: Scale
Working from an art history print, we will learn how to use a grid to reproduce what we see using pastels or charcoal.
Week 4 and 5: Final Project
These last sessions will be time for us to create personal projects. Using the drawing skills and the media choices (charcoal, pencil, colored pencil or pastel) we will explore and be inspired by many sources…art history, personal photographs or self portraiture. We will discuss color as it relates to emotional impact.
